Even when a mother can step away, she’s never really away. But she can have calm, utility, and luxury. This is the ethos behind the Cumberland Hideaway. Designed for a creative director and mother of two, the 200 square foot office is both sanctuary and work retreat. The program packs a lot into the small footprint: office, gym, breastfeeding room, garage storage. At the same time, the material selection is luxurious and color palette vivid; the skylight and raised slit windows balance privacy with ample natural light while bringing the vibrant peach sofa and color blocked interior alive. The vertical pattern of the wallpaper contrasts the solid pale pink, baby blue, and white custom cabinets that were staggered in order to fit the Peloton exercise bike in and be as efficient as possible. The room is punctuated by sconces and a sculptural pendants and a chandelier and anchored with a Bushammer porcelain tile floor. The room does it all: it’s feminine, effortlessly sumptuous, and unapologetically all about a mother’s business.
